Connecting spaces... (Page 3)
Colours:
Colours come truly handy while connecting spaces. A same family of colours helps in maintaining the flow of spaces. In case of elements present in these connecting spaces it's always advisable to paint the main features in a contrasting colour. Stairs since long have been the most striking feature of hallways. Painting them in contrasting colours is a sure shot way of moving your gaze to it.
A research by a paint company shows that people choose shades of green for their hallways to bring the outdoors in. Yellow colour is also a favourite since it is associated with brightness, cheerfulness, warmth and sparkle.
Flooring:
Linking areas are a place of heavy traffic; hence the flooring should be hardwearing and long lasting. The colour chosen should be neutral to withstand any radical changes in decorative schemes. If there is a staircase or a corridor, which leads out of the hall, it should be floored or carpeted in the same or coordinating colours. Wooden floors are a good choice in these areas.
Furniture and accessories:
When we talk about areas that serve the purpose of connecting the liveable spaces in our homes, the furniture and accessories used to adorn them should accentuate the same too. These spaces with their special use should be designed with an imagination that should run vivid.
Mirrors are a favourite accessory for the hallways and corridors since they tend to enlarge any given space. Where space is rampant, an interesting chair and a console table can be added. More space could possibly accommodate a bookshelf and a fireplace. Such spaces can be accessorised with painting, pictures and fragrant flowers. Architectural elements can add interest. An antique window frame, sculptures, murals also do wonders while a runner rug that complements the space's colour scheme can instantly warm up the space.
The End.
