Landscaping Proposal of Lake-forest Area

The Chandigarh College of Architecture was approached by the administration to propose development Schemes for the forest area behind the lake. The College faculty and Students provided Some Solutions to the existing problems facing the green belt Surrounding the lake and also proposed facilities to rejuvenate the Lake Forest. The inspiration for the landscaping of the forest area and its walk ways was taken from nature itself. The proposal included a well laid out nature trail made for fire safety, ways to enhance and maintain water inlets, formal entry gates, and interpretation huts for guiding visitors. For making a trip to the forest area more enjoyable, relaxation and Seating areas have been identified and placards and direction boards proposed all along the trail. Great emphasis was placed on the aesthetics of the proposed structures and street furniture with ecofriendly materials being used. Near the regulator end where the nature trail starts, the water level rises every monsoon, submerging parts of the trail. A retractable bridge made of organic materials was proposed to maintain connectivity all around the year.

At the junction where the trail diverges into two pathways-one towards the Kansal Choe and the other towards the forest area--a checkpoint and interpretation huts have been proposed. These interestingly designed structures will have information. On the flora and fauna of the forest area at the lower level and a viewing deck above.

Suitable seating has been proposed along the banks of the water channels running through the forest area. Towards the end of the trail another tower for bird watching-Cumorientation Center is proposed since this area gives a panoramic view of the lake promenade.
