To begin with, Morphogenesis Το like to congratulate Architecture + Design or A+D as commonly known, for completing 25 years since its conception. A+D has been India's paramount architecture and design journal and has always positioned itself as a non-biased platform for architectural communication throughout India and abroad. Right through the initial years, A+D sought to establish itself always as an architectural journal with a widespread out-reach that appeals to both professionals and non-professionals. A+D has represented itself as the voice behind architecture at various scales, practices and emerging trends with no single point focus or style cliches. A+D must be applauded for being this voice and a platform for 25 years. The enormous numbers of ardent readers over the years stand testimony of its zealous engagement with the design profession.

Looking ahead towards the future and imminent opportunities, there are certain areas that need to be concentrated on. Environmental sensitivity and a greener world are core issues today and will continue to be in the years to come that need to be addressed as India moves towards a turning point in its architecture and urbanism. At a time, where everyone is mouthing words on Green Building, a regular section, which is a full segment dedicated to theory, products, innovations in technology, projects, etc. With a guest writer each month, is something that is the need of the hour.

In the last decade or so, architectural communication across the world has become not merely a voice but as a recognised forum for all practicing professionals and enthusiasts to engage with emergent and current issues of the trade. Today, when the world's eyes are on Asia, A+D should position itself as a channel and a conduit to the wider international forum. A+D should help us professionals in pre-empting, how we, as Indian architects, should position ourselves with respect to the global environment. Worldwide market updates, technological innovations, competitions, reviews, and discourses should become an intrinsic part of the publication, which is accessible for both the domestic and international market. In this era of technology and e-media, documentation and archiving of all content is extremely essential along with a Web portal, which permits easy accessibility of this information.

A+D has been hosting and supporting one of the country's oldest and most esteemed architecture and design awards annually, which brings the entire design community together onto one platform. The A+D & Spectrum Foundation Architecture Awards have always been a successful event, and initiatives such as these are extremely encouraging.

The Vituti was directed by a board of trustees and employed a manager and staff to provide services for travelling Nakarattars. These services included, in addition to provision of lodging and meals, provision of mailing facilities, making travel arrangements, Clearing baggage at local customshouses, and arranging for absentee prayers at local temples. In short, vitutis were extremely useful in the mobile world of the Nakarattar. Vitutis were normally financed primarily by large gifts or endowments (kattalais) and operating costs were also subscribed through endowment. In addition, every guest paid what amounted to a nominal rent (called makinai, like the Nakarattar religious tithe) fixed by the manager of each Vituti and subject to revision according to need.
